Man Booker Prize 2017: Shortlist revealed today – nominated books, winner date, more


At 10am BST, the previously-announced longlist will be whittled down once more.

The latest stage in the competition precedes the prize-giving on October 17, when the eventual winner will be revealed.

The books still in the running are: 

  • 4 3 2 1 by Paul Auster (US)
  • Days Without End by Sebastian Barry (Ireland)
  • History of Wolves by Emily Fridlund (US)
  • Exit West by Mohsin Hamid (Pakistan-UK)
  • Solar Bones by Mike McCormack (Ireland)
  • Reservoir 13 by Jon McGregor (UK)
  • Elmet by Fiona Mozley (UK)
  • The Ministry Of Utmost Happiness by Arundhati Roy (India)
  • Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders (US)
  • Home Fire by Kamila Shamsie (UK-Pakistan)
  • Autumn by Ali Smith (UK)
  • Swing Time by Zadie Smith (UK)
  • The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead (US)

The competition is judged by Baroness Lola Young, Lila Azam Zanganeh, Sarah Hall, Tom Phillips and Colin Thubron.

Last year’s winner was The Sellout by Paul Beatty, while A Brief History of Seven Killings by Marlon James was victorious in 2015.

Earlier this year the International Prize was won by Israel’s David Grossman with A Horse Walks Into A Bar.
